Mike Pauly returns from trek around Australia for charity

Jessica NicoFremantle Gazette

GOING for a walk around the block is not high on the list of things-to-do for many people, but Mike Pauly’s shoes were made for walking — right around Australia.

In his mid 70s, Mr Pauly ambled into Kings Square in Fremantle just after midday last Wednesday, completing a long and sometimes gruelling 15-month solo trek around the country.

It was the third time he has done such a walk, the first two in 2009 and 2011 for diabetes research and this most recent attempt in support of men’s health and the Australian Men’s Shed Association.

Addressing the welcoming home crowd, Mr Pauly thanked everyone for their support. He said his trip was made easier by the warm welcome he received at Men’s Sheds all around the country and the help of the Fremantle Men’s Shed to get him started on his journey with materials and equipment.
