After 15 years at Fremantle Hospital, an increase in donor numbers and the expansion of services saw the centre outgrow the location.

The new centre in the Market Place shopping complex on Hampton Road has more space, a larger refreshment area, more donor couches and free parking, as well as longer opening hours.

Australian Red Cross Blood Service communications advisor Jessica Willet said they wanted donors to have a quick, easy and pleasurable experience to ensure they come back again.

‘Coincidentally the opening is in the middle of National Blood Donor Week, a time when we celebrate and say thank you to all our blood donors for their life-saving gifts,’ she said.

‘Donors will continue to be able to donate all three blood products at our new centre: blood, plasma and platelets.

‘Every week the centre needs almost 350 donors to ensure enough blood for patients in need, with donated blood helping cancer patients, newborn babies, expectant mothers, accident victims and surgical patients, to name a few.’
