The Shipwreck Gallery held a Stowaway activity, where children were able to sail to exotic ports, find the mysterious cargo and search for a hidden passenger while the WA Maritime Museum held Explorers Afloat, where participants were able to create and decorate their own boat with recycled materials.

WA Museum public programs officer for Fremantle Felena Alach said the children really enjoyed the events.

‘At the museum we have lots of stories from our objects and displays that are all the start of a whole journey of discovery and learning about museum themes,’ she said.

‘We want to offer opportunities to have fun as a family with these stories and ideas about the past and where we have all come from.

‘Having activities that offer new ways of exploring these maritime themes is a good way for kids to get excited about the amazing ideas and salty stories that come from the sea and shape the WA that we all share now.’
