Her journey, which began in 1968 at Hamilton Senior High School, led her to teach at many local schools, as well in England, Africa, Central America and Asia.
Her teaching days ended recently at Phoenix Primary School, a school she taught at for 22 years.
She was told that it would be a no-fuss exit, but that was never going to happen.
‘Well my school send-off was a mega-production,’ she said.
‘They invited colleagues from across the district and many past students were there. Past staff and past principals attended. The music teacher and students had written a special song for me and both junior and senior choirs performed.’
Ms Francis said she would use her new-found freedom to learn Mandarin, to go swimming and on walks and coffee dates with friends.
She’s also taken up painting, vegan cooking, sewing and is particularly passionate about keeping Fremantle sustainable.
