New safety equipment protects crews: WA Fire and Emergency Services

CLOSE to 1000 vehicles used to fight fires across WA will be fitted with new equipment unveiled at the 2015 WA Fire and Emergency Services Conference .

The new protection measures include external water systems that can protect vehicles under threat from flames, in-cab air breathing systems and added protection for wiring, water and fuel lines.

The upgrades are the second phase of a $15.4 million crew protection project, Emergency Services Minister Joe Francis said.

Brigades operating in high-risk areas will receive the upgrades first.

Appliances will be fitted with advanced vehicle locating systems as part of the third and final phase of the project in 2016.
