New steel piles for inner harbour

The upgrade includes the removal of the 290m fender system and the installation of a new system at E Berth and part of D Berth at Victoria Quay, putting new steel piles into the harbour and reinstating the deck.

The piling will occur intermittently over the next eight months and the Port Authority warns it could generate noise at times, but that it would be carried out between 7am and 7pm from Mondays to Saturdays using a modern vibratory pile driver where possible to minimise community impact.

A spokesperson said the timber fender system at E Berth was constructed in 1927 and had not had major maintenance since 1995, warranting a complete replacement.
