New tack in learning science pays off

Eighty entrants from four local schools competed in an initiative setup by a network of teachers keen to see the science learning area grow.

Yachts were made from recycled materials, stationary items and random toolshed scraps.

Joint entrants Kate Stidwill and Ella Foster from Harmony won the Year 4-6 class with a distance of 21.47 metres.

Aubin Grove Primary’s Joel Hoogewerf won the Year 1-3 category with a distance of 21.7 metres.

‘I heard so many stories of children working together at home with their families,’ said Harmony’s science coordinator Jennifer Kirk.

‘All teachers involved reported that it was such a fun learning experience.’
