Opening in 1976, it was the City of Cockburn’s first library service and has since grown to a collection of more than 59,000 items.

Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett used the anniversary celebrations to thank library staff for their commitment to the service.

“Congratulations on 40 amazing years of providing professional library and information services to the growing numbers of members and others who love to visit their local libraries,” he said.

“Libraries offer a place to catch up with friends, read a newspaper or magazine, connect with the world through the internet, select a hardcopy or e-book or two, and to indulge in other forms of learning.
