Construction site noise complaints increased from 12 complaints in 2011-2012 to 27 in 2012-2013. Loud music, stereo noise and loud party complaints also increased from 72 in 2011-12 to 98 in 2012-13.

City environmental health manager Nick Jones said the onus was on everyone to keep noise at an acceptable level, but gave special mention to builders who might try to sneak into work during summer’s cooler hours.

‘Every builder and tradesman in Perth knows they are not allowed to start noisy work before 7am. Most builders are considerate but a small number are fined for causing a noise nuisance early in the morning,’ he said. Noise complaints for airconditioners dropped, as did industrial noise, musical instruments and power tool complaints.
