The shop she was negotiating to buy had been left with a hefty repair bill after an automated teller machine at her future shopfront became the 14th in Perth destroyed within two months.

‘I was just happily watching the news,’ she said.

‘I was like ‘wow, I’m pretty sure that’s our shop’. I phoned my sister but she hadn’t seen it. It was shock.’

After considering a move elsewhere, Ms Watkinson and her team decided stay. Negotiations and store repairs began and on April 17 Hippie Chips was open for business, minus the ATM.

‘The ATM was in this window so we didn’t want it back,’ she said.

‘It’s just not worth the hassle. It was horrible.’
