As the woman tried to get off the bus Mr Thorne entered and blocked her from leaving.

He then grabbed the woman’s crotch with his left hand and verbally abused her.

Thorne used vulgar language and asked the woman to engage in sexual intercourse with him.

Some people in the court gasped audibly when told the nature of Thorne’s comments.

Police prosecutor Turner said Thorne proceeded to get on the bus and verbally abused the bus driver.

He approached a couple sitting at the rear of the bus and also verbally abused them.

He then proceeded to make obscene gestures using a wine bottle.

Thorne refused legal representation.

The offence was committed at a time when he was subject to a suspended sentence over another matter.

Magistrate Peter Malone ordered a fine of $1000 for the disorderly conduct and an extra eight months in prison for the indecent assault, on top of the 22 months he is already serving.
