The former Sydney 2000 Paralympian and 2015 winner of the Activ Artspace Jarmen McKenna Representational Award has had one of his artworks chosen as the flagship auction piece at the upcoming Activ Artspace exhibition, which will showcase a range of original artworks and photographs.

After retiring from professional athletics, Mr Mitchell dedicated his time to art, despite having no formal training, and said he was honoured to be a part of this year’s event.

Activ chief executive Tony Vis said the organisation was thrilled to have Mr Mitchell on board as a feature artist.

“Paul is an inspiration to all our artists and we are delighted that he has decided to support the exhibition in such a meaningful way,” he said.

“Art is a passion for many of the people we support, so it’s wonderful to see the exhibition continue to grow and develop.

“The event is a fantastic opportunity for people living with disability and we’re excited to host it again at Activ in 2016.”

Activ Artspace will run from March 5 until March 11 at the Activ Library in Wembley.
