Passers-by alerted the mother and a daughter to the blaze, which started in the carport of their home on the corner of Hamilton Road and Bramston Street about 9.15am.

Firefighters had it under control 45-minutes later.

The mother was examined by paramedics at the scene and found to be unharmed.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokes-man Allen Gale said it looked like the home would need its roof replaced.
