Passers-by alerted the mother and a daughter to the blaze, which started in the carport of their home on the corner of Hamilton Road and Bramston Street about 9.15am.

Firefighters had it under control 45-minutes later.

The mother was examined by paramedics at the scene and found to be unharmed.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokes-man Allen Gale said it looked like the home would need its roof replaced.

‘The fire has started in the carport. The cause is yet to be determined but that’s what we’re working on,’ he said.

‘We definitely believe it was an accident, but we’ll know more as our investigation progresses.

‘The fire has spread quite quickly throughout the roof, so we would think the whole thing would need to be replaced, although structurally the home looks OK.’
