Perth: Former boys’ rugby league coach charged with historic child sex offences

A FORMER children’s rugby league coach has been charged with a number of historic child sex offences alleged to have occurred at his southern suburbs homes.

Sex Offender Management Squad detectives charged the 51-year-old man over three different incidents that occurred in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Police allege the man sexually assaulted a boy between April and June 1993 when the boy was 13-years-old at the time of the first incident.

He also allegedly indecently assaulted another 14-year-old in June 1994.

The man was the boys’ rugby league coach at the time and the incidents occurred in his Coolbellup home.

He played and coached league between 1980 and the mid-1990s at a Willagee club and in the late 1990s at a Mosman Park club.

Police have also charged the man over the sexual assault of a 14-year-old boy at the man’s home in Armadale in 2003 and 2004.

He is currently in prison and has been charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child over 13 and under 16, one of indecently dealing with a child over 13 and under 16 and one count of sexual penetration without consent.

He will appear in the Fremantle Magistrates Court on Tuesday, March 6.
