Cockburn MLA Fran Logan and City of Cockburn councillor Yaz Mubarakai have drawn up two petitions which are making their way around the City.
One will be presented to the council and is aimed at getting City officials to work with Main Roads to alter the timing of the lights on Armadale Road east of Cockburn Central to make it easier for cars to get out of the Knock Place car park during peak times.
The second calls for Transport Minister Dean Nalder to direct Main Roads to alter the timing of the traffic lights to enable motorists to leave the train station car park in the afternoon.
Cr Mubarakai said the issue was causing a ripple effect for motorists from Warton Road in the east to Hammond Road in the west.
Its mayhem at the moment, he said.
We cant wait for the North Lake flyover bridge and we cant wait for the new station in Aubin Grove.
Its a simple fix.
Mr Logan said things were so bad even the flyover bridge, which received no Federal or State funding in recent budget papers, would not completely solve the issue.
People are spending 20 minutes just trying to get out of a car park, he said.
Main Roads might baulk at it but its a solution.
A Main Roads spokeswoman said they were aware Beeliar Drive and Armadale Road experienced high traffic volumes, but added traffic signals from Wentworth Parade through to east of the Kwinana Freeway are already synchronised.
Main Roads is looking at a long-term solution for the area, she said.
