Pint-sized poppet joins WA’s best

Though only pint-sized, Makaylah Larkin-Boys, who only recently celebrated her fourth birthday, is bursting with energy and potential.

WAIS head coaches visited the Fremantle PCYC where she trains once a week little more than a month ago and were instantly won over.

Young Makaylah will train at Challenge Stadium from this week with other gymnasts identified as having the potential to reach the highest level of gymnastics.

But competition is the furthest thing from the youngsters mind. Unable to compete until she is six, Makaylah joked that she would no longer have to train with her older sister.

‘She’s super energetic and always bouncing off things around the home, off her mum and off her dad,’ her mum Jacqui, a former gymnast, said.

‘It’s an amazing opportunity to train at an elite facility but we’re taking every day as it comes. If she doesn’t cope with it, I’ll be more than happy to pull her out. She is only four years old after all.’
