Mr Muirhead said Albany would be the focus of international attention when it hosted the first in a series of commemorative and community events as the curtain raiser to the Anzac Centenary period.
‘The first convoy of ships set sail from Albany, bound for World War 1 on November 1, 1914, with many Australian and New Zealand troops on board paying the ultimate price,’ he said.
‘While Albany will rightly be a focus of Anzac commemorations next year, it is our desire to co-ordinate and plan a range of initiatives throughout the State over the Centenary period.’
