A MAN has been arrested after allegedly punching a police dog on Lefroy Road early this morning.

Police were called at around 3.45am after being told a 32-year-old man who was wanted on an outstanding warrant had been seen in a stolen car in the area.

Locals told police the man had entered a nearby home but the man jumped from a window as police tried to enter the unit and landed next to police dog Jose and his handler.

Jose cornered him into a fence but as the officer tried to arrest the man, he allegedly punched both Jose and his handler a number of times.

Police say they located a knife and drugs on the man before he was taken to Fremantle Police Station where he is helping them with inquiries.
