The Australia Post outlet at Cockburn Central has relocated back to Cockburn Gateway Shopping City.
Owner and former councillor Yaz Mubarakai said he knows how much the move will mean to locals.
“We feel the right decision has been made,” he said.
“The post office belongs in the shopping centre.”
The move from the train station precinct to the shopping centre represents a shift of about 450m.
But customers were unhappy when Mr Mubarakai’s team made the move the other way two years after his lease lapsed at Gateway.
Customers were particularly unhappy with having to cross Beeliar Drive and limited parking.
“So many people have come up and thanked me for moving back,” Mr Mubarakai said.
“It was the right thing to do when you see how significant it is for the community.”
Perron Group senior asset manager Graeme Glass said the shopping centre owners were glad to see Mr Mubarakai’s team return.
“One of the most frequently asked questions we received at the information desk was about the opening date of Australia Post,” he said.
“Clearly it’s a popular service and we’re very happy we can provide the convenience of having Australia Post at the shopping centre once again.”
