The three shortlisted concepts, from CODA and Kerry Hill Architects, both Fremantle-based, and Victoria’s McBride Charles Ryan, were selected from 53 applicants who sent in designs for stage one.
The shortlisted architects will now prepare a detailed stage two submission. The winner, who will be commissioned to design, document and administer the project, will be announced in December.
Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettitt said the competition was used to ensure the best design was the one the city went with.
‘Quality sustainable development is what Fremantle needs and this competition, judged by an independent expert panel, will go a long way to ensuring the development we build today becomes the heritage that future generations can be extremely proud of,’ he said.
