Purls of wisdom from long-time knitter

The 69-year-old author has been knitting since he was in primary school and finds it so interesting he has even written a book about it to inspire others to take it up.

Mr Pearson will be talking about his love of knitting at this month's Perth Craft and Quilt Fair.

He said knitting was a great creative outlet and show of identity.

"A knitter's choice of pattern is not just an aesthetic decision but an expression of social identity," he said.

"It has been my experience and the experience of many knitters I have worked with that an exploration of traditional knitting provides the strength for a personal leap into the world of creativity."

The Perth Craft and Quilt Fair is on May 20 to 24 and showcases knitting, paper craft, textile art, vintage fashion, wearable art and a collection of Australian and internationally made quilts.

It will be held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
