The effort was the latest from the City in the quest to support the home team in the Dockers, including the distribution of purple supporter kits to a number of local businesses, heritage buildings lit in purple LED lighting and large ‘Go Freo’ banners put up in a number of places.
Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettitt said Dockers fever had taken over the port city.
‘As a long-time and passionate Freo supporter, I’m just as excited as anyone about the Dockers’ finals campaign and it’s fair to say that the AFL finals fever has really taken hold of our city,’ he said.
‘The local community and businesses have really got behind the Dockers, and it’s been great to see everyone in Freo unite to support them in their quest for the AFL Premiership.’
With the Dockers now in the Grand Final, Dr Pettitt said the City had even bigger plans.
‘The City of Fremantle will host the biggest street party since the America’s Cup, with the Cappuccino Strip closed off and a massive TV screen showing Channel 7’s live coverage of the game…’ he said.
