IT SEEMS almost everyone is a budding chef these days, but few have the opportunity to actually see their creations served up at popular restaurants.
The Tradewinds Hotel is looking to change that, offering local home cooks the chance to have their recipe added to the summer menu in their My Recipe Rules competition.
Locals are invited to submit their recipes, with the winning dish not only added to the menu but the creator able to eat it, or any other item on the menu, as many times as they want, with a free meal every week for two months.
Tradewinds general manager Stephen Wicks said the hotel wanted to use the competition as a chance to engage better with locals.
“At the Tradewinds, we are always trying to encourage people to hop up from the couch and go out and eat, drink and be social with their friends and we felt that this was a great way to continue that focus,” he said.
“Getting a dish on a menu that has only 40 items on it is no mean feat.
“We sell almost 100,000 meals a year, so if it is good, almost 1000 people will try that dish over the summer menu period.
“Knowing your market is crucial for any business and this gives us insight into what people like to cook and eat themselves.
“It’s also bragging rights to your mates when they come in.”
