Remediation works underway for North Fremantle’s Port Beach

REMEDIATION works have begun at Port Beach to ensure it’s ready for the summer rush.

Severe storms this year have caused erosion at the popular beach, washing away access paths as well as undermining the southern car park.

City of Fremantle parks and landscapes manager Ryan Abbott said the City had been repairing the paths, monitoring dunes and reinforcing the car park.

He said works started last week were the last steps to ready the beach for summer.

“The erosion over winter was quite significant, but over the past few months the natural changes in the weather and coastal conditions have seen the sand build up again and beach is looking great,” he said.

“There are about 40 parking bays at Port Beach that have been fenced off for safety reasons after they were undermined in the storms.

“The works the City will be undertaking over the next few weeks will remove the undermined sections of the car park, provide for additional dune establishment and install a new walkway and fencing.

“The works are expected to take about two weeks, so provided the weather is kind we’ll be all done and Port Beach will be ready to go in time for summer.”
