East ward councillor Steve Portelli said the City's official stance did not represent the views of the wider Cockburn area, despite the council recently reaffirming its opposition to the project and even offering $25,000 for a community campaign.
Cr Portelli has made no secret of his support for the road and called on community groups from across the City to have their say.
"At present there is a loud minority saying"no" to Roe 8," he said.

The Bibra Lake Residents Association recently gathered more than 1000 signatures from people opposed to the 5km extension through Bibra Lake and significant road changes in suburbs along Stock Road.
The extension is part of the |$1.58 billion Perth Freight Link project which the State and Federal governments believe is the best way to create an east-west freight connection between Kewdale, Fremantle Port and southern industrial areas.
