RSL mourns death of branch stalwart

The 74-year-old began national service training in 1958, before joining the Royal Australian Navy where he served on many RAN ships including HMAS Quiberon, HMAS Queenborough and HMAS Melbourne.

He was discharged from the Navy in 1971 before joining the Commonwealth police where he worked until 1990.

Lawrie became a member of the Cockburn RSL in 2008 where he held the position of secretary and membership officer.

‘I have known Lawrie since 2008 and we became very close mates and good friends,’ RSL member Arthur Stanton said. ‘He will be sadly missed by all in the ranks of the RSL and the RAN.’
