Runners flock to good health in Freo marathon

One of many West Australian Marathon Club events, the Fremantle leg saw all entry fee proceeds donated to Diabetes WA, which also fielded a team.

Diabetes WA chief executive Andrew Wagstaff said diabetes was the world’s fastest growing chronic condition, but was rarely regarded as a serious problem.

“There are thousands of people in WA with pre-diabetes, which puts them at high risk of going on to develop type 2 diabetes,” he said.

“We know that for up to 60 per cent of these people, a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes can be prevented if they choose a healthier lifestyle, which includes staying physically active.
