Sail back 400 years

Jessica NicoFremantle Gazette

Celebrating 400 years since Dutch explorer Dirk Hartog first made landfall on WA, the Leeuwin joined with the Fremantle and South of Perth Yacht Clubs to launch the Dirk Hartog Voyage of Discovery: Shark Bay 1616 Festival.

The STS Leeuwin II will offer a chance to join its crew on a voyage to mark the anniversary, with historian Michael Gregg also on board to talk about 400 years of European-Australian maritime history.

There will also be a chance to be part of history as part of an Ocean Classic Race crew in The Dirk Hartog Ocean Classic.
