Lachie Neale attending See the Sunset for the Sick Ones, raising money for the Cancer Council

Staff WriterFremantle Gazette

Makenzie Hewitt was only nine years old when she came up with the idea to raise money for the Cancer Council of WA.

Her grandfather was lost to skin cancer before she was born, and she wanted to raise funds to help find a cure for the disease.

So was born ‘See the Sunset for the Sick Ones’, an annual sausage sizzle in North Fremantle.

Since its humble beginnings, the event has raised about $11,000 for the Cancer Council, with last year’s Sunset seeing about $4500 donated.

This year’s event is sure to be another success.

It will take place this Friday November 11 from 4.30pm until 6.30pm at the North Fremantle Bowling Club, 40 Stirling Highway, North Fremantle.

As well as a $5 sausage sizzle, there will be face painting, fairy floss, a juice van, a silent auction, raffles and live music.

There will also be an appearance by Fremantle Dockers star, and reigning Doig medallist, Lachie Neale.
