Skippers fined in speeding crackdown

A number of trouble spots along the Swan and Canning rivers were targeted last weekend as part of Operation White Water, a joint procedure by Water Police, the Swan River Trust and the Department of Transport.

Department of Transport supervising marine officer Simon Miller said skippers needed to be more aware of the speed limit for the area they were in.

‘Skippers who don’t adhere to the correct speed are risking their safety and that of their passengers and fellow boat owners,’ he said.

He said important recent changes to speed included an eight-knot limit from Fremantle Port to Mosman Bay and that the adherence to the 10-knot limit after sunset in all non-speed restricted areas needed to be more stringent.
