A JUNIOR flying enthusiast has received a massive boost to his dream of becoming a commercial pilot.
Iluka resident Liam Birch, a member of the Royal Aero Club of WA in Jandakot, was one of four people and the only West Australian to receive an Airservices Learn to Fly Scholarship.
Each recipient was granted $7000 to put towards obtaining a private or commercial pilots licence.
The 15-year-old said he had always wanted to be a pilot and could not see himself doing anything else.
He said flying A320s for Qantas or working in Britain were among his long-term goals.
The scholarship will definitely kick-start my journey, relieving the pressure that flying can put on finances, he said.
I think my dad was more excited about winning the scholarship than I was.
He has been paying for my lessons so far.
