Sky’s the limit for young pilot’s dreams

A JUNIOR flying enthusiast has received a massive boost to his dream of becoming a commercial pilot.

Iluka resident Liam Birch, a member of the Royal Aero Club of WA in Jandakot, was one of four people " and the only West Australian " to receive an Airservices Learn to Fly Scholarship.

Each recipient was granted $7000 to put towards obtaining a private or commercial pilot's licence.

The 15-year-old said he had always wanted to be a pilot and could not see himself doing anything else.

He said flying A320s for Qantas or working in Britain were among his long-term goals.

"The scholarship will definitely kick-start my journey, relieving the pressure that flying can put on finances," he said.

"I think my dad was more excited about winning the scholarship than I was.

"He has been paying for my lessons so far."
