Four years ago Sam and Nadia Tomeo were given the shocking news that their daughter Ava, just three at the time, had developed a tumour on her kidney.
Fast forward to 2013 and Ava is now cancer free, but that does not mean they have forgotten their journey and the help they received while at Princess Margaret Hospital.
The family will take part in its fifth John Hughes Big Walk, a walk to raise money for cancer projects at PMH, as a way of giving back to the hospital that helped them in their time of need.
‘By taking part in the John Hughes Big Walk and raising money for the PMH Foundation, this is our way of saying thanks for looking after us and our little girl so well,’ Nadia said.
‘Although Ava is fine and healthy now, her time at PMH is something we’ll never forget.
‘And every October when the Big Walk comes around, we do reflect on what we went through.’
