Gabriela Postma, from Bateman, Tayla Bell, from East Fremantle, (both 15) and Shane Lim (13), of Willetton, headed off last week on the trip, the choir’s 18th international tour in its 31-year history.

Founded in 1984 by Judith Curphey with 150 girls rehearsing in the Melbourne suburb of Burwood with Judith as the sole conductor, the AGC has blossomed to 5000 girls in training across five states of Australia.

The choir was famously the voice of Qantas commercials in the 1990s.

After three days of rehearsals in Sydney, the girls will sing and dance their way through some of the America’s most celebrated cities, before finishing their journey in the home of Broadway – New York City.

The touring group of girls from Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney will entertain audiences, take in the local attractions, and participate in workshops with local school and choral groups in each destination.

Highlightswill include an appearance at Disneyland Anaheim and the Kennedy Centre in Washington DC.

Touring with the AGC is a highlight for many choristers, some of whom will be experiencing their first taste of travelling overseas.

During the tour the girls will travel over 107,800 kilometres, perform over 340 songs in over 18 performances, and spend 108 hours in rehearsal.

Any girl with a love of music is invited to attend the AGC Open Day on Sunday, October 25, to experience a taste of what it is like to be a member of the choir. Visit www.aspagroup. com.au or call 6365 2100 to find out more.
