South Fremantle and Hamilton students get insight into life after high school

LOCAL students recently got the chance to meet and greet industry professionals and get an insight into life after high school.

Students from South Fremantle and Hamilton senior high schools met professionals in a number of science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields during the speed careering event, giving them the opportunity to discuss possible career paths and the roles behind them.

Representative fields during the workshop included teachers, programmers, scientists, farmers and engineers.

South Fremantle SHS principal Geri Hardy said the workshop focused on STEM related fields because of how quickly those industries were growing.

She said students needed to appreciate how many skilled jobs in the workplace were underpinned by science and technology.

“We rely on innovation and technology in the workplace and it is important that students are aware of the real world opportunities available by choosing STEM subjects in their senior school years,” she said.
