COCKBURN’S young people will have a chance to voice their opinion on the development of a new leadership program.
A Creating Youth Leadership event will be held at the Cockburn Youth Centre on Thursday, with special guest speakers and workshops to form part of the day.
Cockburn’s youth development officer Gemma McDonald encouraged people aged 10 to 24 to come along.
“We’re establishing the City of Cockburn’s first leadership program and we want people who live, work or study here to share their ideas and thoughts from the beginning,” she said.
“We will build a program from that.”
Youth Advisory Council member Rhiannon Ingoe said the event offered young people something they often craved – a voice.
“It’s important for young people to have a voice and know that they can use it,” she said.
“They will be leaders one day, but can become disenfranchised if they don’t feel in-cluded.”
