STORIES: private collection of Aboriginal art on display at Fremantle’s Kidogo Arthouse

A PRIVATE collection of Aboriginal art will be on display this Friday at Kidogo Arthouse in Fremantle.

The collection labelled STORIES includes paintings, prints, sculptures, ceramics and textiles that have been collected from throughout Australia over 30 years.

Art collector Christina McGuinness said the work doesn’t have an overall theme.

“The work speaks of all the beautiful stories told throughout Australia, especially WA,” she said.

“It is about the love of land by a people who have been here for over 60,000 years, the first people of Australia – the Aboriginal people.

“This is my personal collection that has never been shown in Freo before.”

Artists include Paddy Carlton, Shirley Purdie, Lily Karedada, Peter Skipper, Pantjiti Mary McLean, Paddy Fordham Wainburranga, Nancy Petyarre, Anmanari Brown, Charlie Djurdjin, Carol Golding, Edgar Pike, Jane Alimankinni, Nyarrapyi Giles and Roy McIvor.

The money raised from the collection will go the Origins Centre, Balingup for their Archival and Restoration Program.
