ST Patricks Community Support Centre chief executive Steve McDermott says the death of a 37-year-old homeless man in Fremantle last week is a reminder of how dangerous living on the street can be.

James Hyman was found dead at Victoria Quay last Monday night after being attacked.

A local 19-year-old has been charged in relation to the death.

Mr McDermott said the man had regular contact with the centre’s Street to Home program and ate there frequently.

‘This sad news is a reminder of the daily reality for many of our clients,’ he said.

‘Living on the street can be very dangerous and our clients are regularly confronted by violence and all too often they become victims of crime.’

St Patrick’s Street to Home program works with people living on the street to find accommodation and services that address their needs.
