Support centre to run emergency simulation exercise for locals

Staff ReporterFremantle Gazette

When these events occur, the Department for Child Protection and Family Support opens and operates a number of welfare centres for people to shelter in during these emergencies.

Terry Sillitto, the department’s senior district emergency services officer, will hold a simulation workshop on Thursday for those living in Fremantle, Cockburn and Melville who want to know how the government and other agencies respond to emergencies.

‘The workshop will highlight to people what is involved in operating a local welfare evacuation centre during an emergency and act as a training exercise to ensure we are prepared for the coming winter months,’ he said.

‘Being prepared for such events take planning and by simulating an emergency situation and going through all the steps to set up and operate an emergency welfare centre we are preparing the local community for any future incidents.’
