SWAN Yacht Club in East Fremantle sailed their way to a Club of the Year win at the Clubs WA Awards of Excellence 2018.

Swan Yacht Club manager Damien Gaspar also won Manager of the Year and said they had a strong team down at the club.

“Being awarded manager of the year without winning club of the year would be the same as winning the best and fairest but losing the grand final,” he said.

“Knowing how much time and effort we have all put into planning over the years to get us to this point I would describe winning the award for a second year as a relief rather than surprise.”

The club was also awarded Members Event of the Year for its Melbourne Cup day event.

Mr Gaspar said the event would be returning this year.

“Our staff put in a lot of work to create a fun environment for members and guests to enjoy and I know the team are already coming up with some great ideas to make this Melbourne Cup the best to date,” he said.

“We will definitely look to introduce new member activities and change some existing activities to keep members and community engaged and our competition on their toes.”
