ONE of Fremantle’s popular eateries can now rightly claim to serve the state’s best steak sandwich.

The Harbour Master, part of the Esplanade Hotel, was dubbed the winner of the Australian Hotels Association’s (AHA) best steak sandwich competition above hundreds of other entries.

Harbour Master head chef Andrew Amis said he believed the success of the steak sandwich was using mouth-watering flavours and “giving customers more than they expect”.

AHA(WA) chief executive Bradley Woods said the Harbour Master was to be congratulated for taking out the competitive title.

“The steak sandwich brings together everything that is great about WA venues and pubs, from the home-style cooking to locally-grown WA produce,” he said.

“The public response to the competition has again been overwhelming; Western Australians are certainly passionate about their steak sandwiches and enjoy being involved in a democratic voting process.”
