A STATUE installed at the brand new clubrooms for the East Fremantle lacrosse and cricket teams has been stolen.
The statue, which represents decades of history between the two clubs at the EG Chapman Reserve, was stolen between Sunday night and Tuesday from outside the newly-built building.
East Fremantle Lacrosse Club vice president Peter Cann said he believed the theft had been planned, with the statue cut from its base with a grinder.
He said it was heavy enough and big enough to need at least two people to carry and something like a ute or a truck to take it away, but that he couldn’t understand why anyone would want to steal it.
“It’s just hard to figure out what someone would do with it,” he said.
“I just can’t see a person driving along and saying ‘let’s pinch that’.
“It’s something that leaves a bad taste in your mouth; it’s a sad day.”
Members of both clubs are asking anyone with any information into the missing statue to contact Fremantle Police on 9430 1222.
