AFTER years of uncertainty, three State Government departments will finally be moving to Fremantle.
Premier Colin Barnett was in Fremantle this morning to announce that as many as 1500 Housing Authority, Department of Corrective Services and Department of Transport employees will be working in the Sirona Capital-owned building in Kings Square from 2020.
Construction is expected to begin midway through 2017.

READ NOWMr Barnett said the Government was fulfilling a 2013 election promise with the move.
“With the construction of this building expected to employ 410 workers, the City of Fremantle will see economic benefits from the start of construction expected next July, and an ongoing stimulus once public servants relocate,” he said.
“The building’s proximity to the Fremantle train station and bus stops, coupled with the modern end of trip facilities that are planned for the building, provides numerous transport options for staff.”
Finance minister Sean L’Estrange said the move to Fremantle would save money, improve community access to much needed Government services and give Fremantle an economic boost.
“The relocation of the Government agencies to Fremantle will deliver net avoided costs of more than $53 million over 15 years,” he said.
“The construction of this office space is expected to directly employ 270 workers, with a further 140 involved in fitting out the building ready for occupation.
“Fremantle will also benefit from having about 1,500 additional agency staff working in the middle of the city.”
