Top awards go to local childcare workers

Smileys Childcare Centre in White Gum Valley and First Steps Early Learning Centre in Fremantle were both nominated in the awards.

First Steps’ Jessica Blackwood won the Rising Star of the Year award and Amy Smith was named Educator of the Year.

Ms Smith said the awards recognised Australia’s early childhood educators and services and celebrated those who had made big contributions to children in the community.

‘It is an enormous reflection on the quality of care and education that people who choose to work in the children services industries,’ she said.

‘We cannot believe that we have come this far and to be announced as one of the best in the state is a major achievement.’
