Trio eye the big stage

East Fremantle Women's Football Club's Jessica Wuetschner was taken at pick 17 and will play for the Western Bulldogs, while Melbourne took Brianna Green with pick 30.

East Fremantle's Nikki Harwood will be the assistant coach for the Western Bulldogs, while South Fremantle Football Club's Michelle Cowan will coach Melbourne for the third year running.

Green, who will be playing in the competition for the first time, said she was excited to be representing women in football.

"I feel honoured and privileged to be given the opportunity to play along side the best in Australia," she said.

"I think the recognition of female footballers with a national draft is crucial the whole development of female football.

"Since being drafted I've noticed even though this is the third year of the national female draft, people are still unaware of its existence.

"To the credit of the past and present female draftees I sincerely hope that one day the female draft will be as highly recognised as the men's draft."

The AFL Women's Exhibition Matches will be held on May 24 and August 16.
