The Year 9 student was invited by the Cockburn City Pipe Band pipe master to join them at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow.

Emmanuel said he was surprised to receive the invite only a year into learning the instrument, but he was excited to take part as the youngest member of the band.

‘The Dun Donald competition was my first ever piping competition with a band and I was really nervous, but when we finished playing I felt I had played well, as did most of the other members of the band,’ he said.

‘It was a tough week of practise but the pipe major let me play at the world championships and I was nervous, but we ended up coming sixth in our heat.

‘The trip was important because it gave me self-confidence in my abilities to both learn things and perform and it is also a reminder of the country I was born in, and reminds me of where I am from.’
