Walyalup Activist Centre: Henderson office space transformed

Jessica NicoFremantle Gazette

A HENDERSON Street office space has been transformed into an activist centre, community group meeting room and a bookstore.

Social Alliance Walyalup Branch co-convenor Chris Jenkins said progressive community groups were able to use the space for their meetings, which also doubled as the branch’s office and had a collection of books for sale.

“We aim to host regular workshops on activist skills, including badge and banner making, film production and public speaking,” he said.

“There is growing community awareness that real democracy and a safe climate require a fundamental change in society.

“We hope the Walyalup Activist Centre and its resources will provide people not only with ideas but with practical ways that they can directly participate in making that change happen.

“Building a strong and diverse activist culture would benefit not only Fremantle but the much broader community too.”
