Save Beeliar Wetlands member Nandi Chinna said many people in Jandakot were fed up with the clearing of land and the loss of bushland reserves in the electorate.

‘In the area that we have covered so far, while a couple of people were not interested in the issue, on the whole we had a very positive response with over 320 post cards to Joe Francis signed,’ she said.

‘In some households the children of the family asked if they could sign a post card to help protect their park.’

Ms Chinna said building more roads would not solve traffic congestion in the long term and would encourage greater use of cars instead.

Jandakot MLA Joe Francis, a supporter of Roe 8, said he was happy with the difference of opinion.

‘It’s the magic of democracy,’ he said.

‘If people want to vote and make their decision on that, that’s fine. I’m not going to lie to anyone on any issue to get their vote.

‘Every day people ring me saying they want Roe 8 built.’
