A WHITE Gum Valley resident will spend five days surviving off just a couple of gold coins.
For the rest of this week, Juliet Murray will experience what it is like to live on the extreme poverty line by feeding herself on just $2 a day as part of Oaktree’s Live Below the Line campaign.
The third time she has taken part in the fundraiser, Ms Murray said she was hoping to raise as much money as possible to try to end poverty.
“I want to raise awareness about poverty, particularly in developing countries and do what little i can to help,” she said.
“I find it heart breaking that so many people live below the poverty line without basic needs such as clean water, adequate, food, warmth or shelter whilst here in Australia we have so much.
“It will be pretty hard, though I have just done a Buddhist-style meditation retreat in which you were only allowed two meals a day so that has prepared me a little for being hungry.
“I’m keeping (the menu) simple as I hate cooking, breakfast is porridge made with water, lunch rice and carrots or frozen mixed vegetables and dinner mashed potato and cabbage.”
Live Below the Line runs until May 5.
