The primary school was recently awarded a five-star accreditation for having 95 per cent or more of their canteen sales as healthy food as part of Star Canteen Accreditation Program 2 (StarCAP2).
They are the first school in WA to achieve the five-star rating.
Winterfold canteen manager Pip Slaughter said the team had worked extremely hard in promoting the healthy options to their students.
‘Not only does it continue the healthy food message students learn in class, but it also provides a practical, tasty example of what healthy food choices can be,’ she said.
‘Healthy food options that Winterfold students and staff can choose from include sushi, soup, salad, sandwiches, pizza and pasta; all made from scratch at Winterfold Primary School.
‘Our students are happy to eat banana pikelets without being slathered in butter, and our fresh apple scrolls don’t need a dusting of icing sugar to be scoffed down.
‘Being a five-star rated canteen under the StarCAP 2 program is great recognition of our best practice standard, particularly our comprehensive healthy menu.’
