Winterworld Australia returning for 2017

Laura PondFremantle Gazette

AUSTRALIA’S largest pop-up outdoor ice skating rink is heading to Fremantle these school holidays.

Winterworld Australia is setting up a 600sq m rink, snow pit and winter-based activities at Esplanade Reserve from June 24 to July 16.

There will also be falling snow, toboggan and inflatable slide rides, and a lodge bar run by The National Hotel offering a fire pit for roasting marshmallows, hot chocolate and mulled wine.

Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettit said the event would complement the harbour town.

“Winterworld Fremantle is set to be a great family-friendly event with plenty of entertainment, outdoor fun and local Freo touches transforming the Esplanade into a unique outdoor winter experience this July,” he said.

“The event will add a special winter magic to Fremantle, making it the perfect time to enjoy some winter shopping, dine out with friends and listen to live music in our port city.”

Sessions run daily until 9pm weeknights and 10pm on Friday and Saturday nights, cater for all ages and are wheelchair accessible.

Winterworld is also heading to Hillarys’ Sorrento Quay Boardwalk during the same period.

While the snow pit, slide and bar will be exclusive to the Fremantle version, visitors can skate on the outdoor rink, feel falling snow and enjoy winter-based activities throughout the venue.

Tickets are available online now at www.winterworld.com.au.
